Monday Style Icon - Daphne Guinness
Daphne Guinness is a multipotentialite: an artist, a philanthropist, a musician, and a poet. Indeed a woman of many talents. She's been a fixture in the contemporary art world, an Oscar nominated film producer, and a muse to so many creative people. Besides everything mentioned above, she is a mother too: "They're their own people, and that's what you want. I hate the idea of making any of my children into a mini-me. That would be terrible."
According to Alexander Fury, Daphne confessed, at various points, to be reading three or four books simultaneously, such is the helter-skelter whirring of her brain. And as he points out, Guinness probably isn't a genius, but she's certainly smarter than most people give her credit for.
Her distinctive style attracted like-minded souls: the late stylist Isabella Blow and the late designer Alexander McQueen. Daphne only has a handful of friends and she is not very big on social events: 'Nothing terrifies me more than being social'. Thus calling her a socialite would be highly unfitting.
Guinness enjoys creative, interesting projects with its own integrity. 'Anything that's really just off the radar, I'll do it,' says Daphne. 'There's always zero budget, so I do my own hair and make-up and off we go.' She is not afraid to be authentically herself, and we don’t see that very often these days.
