Saturday Movie - The Duchess
There is something magical about this movie. I love historical period dramas, because it is a keyhole into the world that we escaped. There are things I appreciate and almost regret missing, such as elaborate dresses and beautiful homes. Then on the other hand, I think of the oppression of women and how forward thinking was not aloud, and how as a woman your only goal and rule was to marry and obey your husband. And suddenly I am glad I was born in 1990. I agree we still have a lot of room for improvement as women equality goes, however I have to appreciate how far women before me have pushed the world's way of thinking. Thanks to them, today I am able to be my own person, make my own living, my own decisions, and simply put - be or do whatever I want.
Ok, so I just went off topic :) Movies, clothes - right! This movie is based on a biography about Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, a woman ahead of her time. She was known for her sense of fashion, and strong political views, that for a woman living in 18th century was almost forbidden. So go ahead and watch it, and while you do so - appreciate the fashion, and the world we live in today.
